Torus appoints US head of healthcare
Torus has announced the appointment of Bob Allen as US Head of Healthcare.
Mr Allen has 20 years’ healthcare liability experience and is an active member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management, and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
He moves from the role of vice president healthcare with Allied World Assurance (US), where he was responsible for the medical professional liability product line.
In his new role, Mr Allen will oversee all of Torus’ US medical professional liability underwriting, reporting directly to Dermot O’Donohoe, chief underwriting officer for Global Specialty.
Commenting on the strategic appointment, Mr O’Donohoe says: “The offering of medical professional liability coincides with our overall strategy to position Torus as a leading global specialty carrier in the main classes.”
He adds: “Bob is recognized as a leader within medical professional liability and he is an integral part of our goal to grow in this segment.”
In other Torus news, the insurer recently announced that its parent company, First Reserve Corporation, had agreed to amalgamate the business with its insurance investment vehicle, Sideris Re Holdings.
The latter provides the capital supporting Lloyd’s syndicate 2243, which writes a worldwide portfolio of upstream and offshore energy risks, as well as non-US and Canadian onshore business.
The move will increase Torus’ capital by around $79 million.
