Staff of swiftcover battle to work to handle claims spike

The arctic weather which has held Britain in its icy grip for weeks has had a dramatic impact on motor insurance claims, with swiftcover.com reporting a 75% spike in claims this week.

The insurer’s staff battled through the elements to work, walking, hiring four wheel drive cars and even sleeping at a hotel near to the workplace to help man the red hot telephone lines.

Ninety percent of the firm’s staff reached its Kent call centre, many of whom had to dig their cars out from the heavy snow.

Swiftcover.com also hired 4x4s to help ferry staff members in, to help deal with the 75% increase in activity during Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

Claims Director Robin Reames has stated that a record number of claims have been made to the insurer due to the arctic weather conditions.

Reames went on to laud the firm’s staff for soldiering on to reach work in order to help others.

Earlier in the week the ABI strongly advised motorists not to leave their cars unattended in the treacherous conditions and risk losing them to thieves, whilst also being in danger of rendering their insurance policies invalid.
