Arch launches in Australia

Arch Underwriting at Lloyd’s has opened an office in Sydney, Australia.

The firm, which forms part of Dublin-based Arch Insurance Europe (AIE), has appointed Adam Matteson as regional director Australasia.

Mr Matteson has 20 years’ underwriting experience in the Australian market and recently held national responsibility for Munich Re’s property product in the country.

In his new post he will focus initially on commercial property business.

AIE chief executive officer, James Weatherstone, comments: “The establishment of an Arch owned and managed underwriting platform in Sydney is a significant development for our Lloyd’s syndicate.”

He adds: “Our intention is to develop a book of indigenous commercial property business which is not typically seen by the London market.”

Arch Underwriting at Lloyd’s (Australia) has authority to enter into contracts of insurance on behalf of the Lloyd’s underwriting member of Lloyd’s syndicate 2012, which is managed by Arch Underwriting at Lloyd’s.
