Hastings Direct invests in anti-fraud technology
Hastings Direct and sister brands Renew, Insure.co.uk and Likewise, have announced that they are investing in state-of-the-art technology that will allow the group to seek out and reject customers who are likely to make fraudulent motor claims, at point of sale.
The group says it wants to ensure policyholders are not penalised by fraudsters who continue to cost the insurance industry £1.9 billion per year, or an extra £100 on a motor insurance premium.
Its Broker Anti-Fraud Team plans to reduce its honest customers’ premiums significantly once improved systems are up and running in the New Year.
Chief executive, Edward Fitzmaurice, says: “We feel strongly about the fact that honest drivers, who have built up their no-claims bonuses, should not be forced to ‘bail out’ those who are intent on trying to defraud the system.”
He adds: “When the fraud team piloted this scheme a couple of months ago, they discovered that up to 15% of people had given inaccurate driving licence information, such as sending in old licences to get around speeding convictions.”
In other insurance fraud news, Groupama has recently announced that it is rolling out Hunter, an award winning fraud prevention solution, across all its household and commercial business.
The move follows the successful implementation of Hunter across the insurer’s motor and fleet application and claims processes, earlier this year.
