Novae Re, the reinsurance division of Lloyd’s insurer Novae Group, has appointed Alan Tomlinson as unit head of motor and general liability.

Mr Tomlinson joins Novae liability underwriter, Iain Russell, having previously worked for Liberty Syndicates, where he developed a leading motor and liability account.

Novae’s group underwriting director, Peter Matson, describes his experience in these markets as “highly respected”.

Novae Re was set up in August 2009 to take advantage of improving conditions in the reinsurance market.

The unit focuses on property, motor, liability, agriculture, engineering and other specialty business, operating through Lloyd’s Syndicate 2007.

Writing new business with effect from 1st January 2010, the unit is expected to achieve incremental GWP of approximately £100 million in 2010 and will be looking to grow the premium thereafter, subject to market conditions.

Commenting on the forthcoming renewals period, Mr Tomlinson says: “There has been a good showing of business already and I am delighted to be back in the market and to be part of the exciting growth opportunity that Novae Re presents.”
