Bupa has released figures showing that just two percent of critical illness claims were turned down due to non-disclosure, and less than ten percent were declined for not complying with the policy definition.

Bupa Individual Protection’s product development chief, Steve Casey, described the figures as good news for customers and an improvement on the numbers from the previous year.

Casey added that the guidance provided by intermediaries was also incredibly important for providing customers with clarity regarding the policy in question.

Bupa was amongst the first firms to offer premium reductions if there were exclusions on a critical illness claim, for which the average payout remains over £98,000.

Cancer is still the top of the critical illness claims list, accounting for seventy percent of claims by women and fifty percent by men.
