Brit Insurance has announced that Peter Burrows is to be promoted to the newly created position of executive chairman of the firm’s UK strategic business unit.

Burrows is presently the chief executive officer of Brit UK, and will take up his new post on 1 January of next year.

Group Chief Executive Officer Dane Douetil has expressed his delight at Burrows’ promotion, prior to his planned retirement at the end of next year after four decades in the insurance industry.

Elsewhere in the firm Ray Cox will retain his post as UK underwriting director.

On the 1 January 2010 the new position of UK Market Management and Regional Operations director will be occupied by Simon Cooter, with Tim Grant becoming head of UK Distribution.
