Global insurance and reinsurance broker, Cooper Gay, has opened a new office of Cooper Gay Risk Services, in Atlanta, Georgia, taking the subsidiary’s branch network to eight.

Barry Whitton, formerly head of National Property practice at Beecher Carlson, is heading up the new branch, which will extend the group’s wholesale presence in the US.

Mr Whitton has over 23 years of retail and marketing experience, including managing and directing the property programmes for several Fortune 100 global accounts.

The firm’s North America managing director, Peter Gorman, comments: “We are very excited to have Barry Whitton join our growing team, and I look forward to further success in delivering focused wholesale solutions to clients across the United States.”

Last month, Cooper Gay bolstered its Latin American presence with the acquisition of a majority shareholding in Reinsurance.com.ar, a specialist reinsurance broker with offices in Miami and Buenos Aires.

The company, which focuses on the Latin American treaty and facultative reinsurance market, was established in 2006.
