Amlin has announced that it is acquiring Crowe Livestock Underwriting Limited.

The transaction will be completed by a wholly-owned subsidiary of the group, and remains subject to the approval of the Financial Services Authority.

Crowe is an internationally recognised provider of specialist insurance to the livestock industry.

The firm, which is based in Norfolk and employs 16 staff, operates through a network of brokers and managing general agents across 45 countries.

With GWP of £10 million expected this year, Crowe underwrites a diverse book of business including poultry, cattle and aquatics.

For Amlin, the acquisition is in line with its strategy of diversifying into a broader range of commercial insurance, in order to balance its catastrophe book.

Charles Philipps, Amlin chief executive comments: “The acquisition of Crowe will be a tremendous opportunity for Amlin to build on its well regarded bloodstock book by entering the livestock class.”
