Ex Aviva manager imprisoned for £1.4m fraud

A former manager at Aviva has been jailed in connection with a £1.4 million fraud.

John Taylor’s career with Norwich Union lasted more than a decade and he stole from the insurer over a number of years, eventually needing the assistance of accomplice and ex-policeman, Stephen Spellacy, to launder the cash.

Leeds Crown Court heard that Mr Taylor redirected £1.1 million of Norwich Union funds and also stole money from dormant accounts.

The two have received sentences of five years and eight-and-a half-years respectively.

Offences in the case included the possession of a gun and ammunition and involved five other people, all of whom received custodial sentences.
