Towergate acquires Hull broker

Towergate Partnership has strengthened its presence in the North East with the acquisition of Rixon Matthews Appleyard Ltd.

The Hull-based firm, which employs 25 staff, will complement the group’s existing broking operations in the city.

Rixon Matthews Appleyard has been trading for over 40 years ago and controls premiums of £10 million.

The firm has strong commercial and personal lines business plus specialist niches including garden centre, glasshouse and growers schemes.

Towergate Risk Solutions chief executive officer, Amanda Blanc, describes the business as “first class” and fitting the group’s profile of “leading expertise, high quality people, and growth potential”.

Rixon Matthews Appleyard spokesman, John Mutch, adds that the move will provide the firm with “the size and scope to build our broking capability”.

At the same time, staff should benefit from the career opportunities available from being part of a “progressive and ambitious” company.
