Global insurance broker Willis Group Holdings has announced the appointment of Hugh Powell as CEO, Latin America, for Willis Facultative.

He formerly led the Latin America Facultative operation at Guy Carpenter before joining Willis.

Powell will be granted regional responsibility for the facultative reinsurance business, and will also acquire a seat on Willis Facultative’s Executive Committee.

Jason Howard, the Committee’s executive chairman, will retain his position as CEO of Willis Re International and Specialty.

In addition, Powell will be given responsibility for the firm’s Latin American reinsurance offices, assisted by Edward Fyfe, deputy CEO of Latin America.

Willis Group’s president, Grahame Millwater, has described Powell’s appointment as a sign of the firm’s commitment to both attract high calibre personnel and to enhance its facultative footprint.
