Aviva provides new student rental product for landlords

Aviva is offering landlords who let their properties to students instant insurance, via the firm’s broker.

In recent years the student population of the UK has steadily increased, with four out of five (2 million) staying away from home.

Of those, two out of three stay in private homes, helping to drive demand for rented accommodation, with the student accommodation market up by 14% over a five year period according to CB Richard Ellis, commercial property and real estate services adviser.

Aviva’s product development manager Mark Keavney has stated students commonly leave halls of residence after the first year to stay in rented accommodation.

Keavney went on to explain that this can pose an issue for landlords regarding insurance, which the firm’s new offering will seek to address by providing insurance on an all risks basis.

Earlier in the month landlords also found themselves offered an innovative product from Petpals Direct, to help mitigate the risks of pets in rented accommodation.

TenantCare Cat and TenantCare Dog insurance both offer coverage against common accidents and illnesses, with greater sums covered immediately after moving to help reduce the costs of any teething problems.
