The representative body for the international re/insurance industry in Ireland DIMA has reported a record year of premium income growth within its membership.

According to the organisation’s figures, gross written premiums rose to €26.2bn, with net premiums standing at €21.7bn.

In addition, the membership’s total assets reached €65.1bn, with capital and surplus of €12.4bn.

Sixty-one firms are members of DIMA, employing over 800 individuals.

Chief Executive Officer Sarah Goddard explained that despite the enormous financial crisis and ensuing recession the re/insurance sector has remained stubbornly resilient.

According to Goddard the newly released statistics highlight Dublin’s established presence as a leading centre for the industry.

Barry O’Leary, IDA, CEO commented, saying that Dublin continues to expand as an international centre for financial services and that IDA looks forward to further collaboration with DIMA to take advantage of future opportunities.
