Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC) has announced that the firm’s president and chief executive officer, Brian Duperreault, is to have his contract extended to last until January 2014.

The extension is three years in size, with the contract now ending on 29 January 2014 having been designed to help facilitate a smooth transition should a successor be identified prior to the contract’s termination.

Chairman Stephen R. Hardis has expressed his pleasure at being able to reveal the news and lavished praise upon Duperreault for his record in helping to stabilise the firm and see it through the unprecedented market conditions unleashed by the financial crisis and ensuing global recession.

Duperreault himself has thanked the board of directors for their confidence in his abilities, and paid tribute to the dedicated staff of MMC.

Before joining MMC he served as chief executive officer of Bermuda insurer ACE Limited for a decade, and earlier in his career spent more than two decades with AIG.
