HSBC insurance jobs at risk in Bournemouth

HSBC insurance staff based in Bournemouth are being given an opportunity to transfer to AXA, following the signing of a ten-year agreement under which AXA will provide insurance products to the bank’s small and medium-sized business customers.

From 1st January 2010, the French insurer will offer its range to new business customers and existing customers, on renewal.

As a result, HSBC Insurance Brokers’ Bournemouth-based operations will cease, leaving 165 staff with an uncertain future.

According to the Bournemouth Echo, AXA will be providing its services from Glasgow and jobs are therefore at risk.

The newspaper also reports that AXA has confirmed it is discussing employment opportunities with HSBC employees and is hoping that “some” employees will decide to join the AXA team.

AXA and HSBC already have a number of partnerships worldwide and in the UK, AXA provides both travel and home insurance products for Marks & Spencer, part of the HSBC Money portfolio.
