The chief underwriting officer and vice chairman of Everest Re Group, Ltd. (NYSE: RE) Thomas J. Gallagher has announced he is to step down from his position with the firm from 9 October.

Gallagher, who is retiring after a year as chief underwriting officer, has also been president and chief operating officer of Everest Re since 1997.

In a statement he has spoken of his pride at having played a role in turning the firm into the diverse and profitable business it is today.

Joseph V. Taranto, chairman and CEO, has thanked Gallagher for his lengthy and committed contribution to the organisation, and wished him all the best for the future.
