Cornish Mutual has secured a new reinsurance deal with specialist insurer, Ecclesiastical.

The Exeter-based mutual says the arrangement will allow it to continue providing the highest levels of service and first-class products for its members, while at the same time providing the capacity to offer insurance for larger risks.

Managing director, Alan Goddard, comments: “We’re delighted with this new agreement – Ecclesiastical is a company with similar values and ethos to Cornish Mutual.”

He adds: “As our Members’ interests diversify it is important that we have the capability to meet their greater insurance needs. This relationship allows us to do this.”

According to Ecclesiastical underwriting director, Chris Lees, the firm is “actively looking” for opportunities to support insurance businesses such as Cornish Mutual.

Cornish Mutual was founded by the county’s farmers over one hundred years ago and currently has around 20,000 members.

It operates out of offices in Exeter and Truro, and serves members not only Cornwall but also Devon, Somerset and Dorset.
