James J. Wrynn has been appointed as the next superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department (NYSID).

He replaces Eric Dinallo, who resigned last month after serving for more than two years in the post, and will take up the position on 20 August.

Wrynn currently services as executive director of the New York State Insurance Fund, and is a founding partner at law firm MacKay, Wrynn & Brady, where he litigates cases on behalf of large companies and policy holders.

His annual salary will be $127,000, the New York State Insurance Department said.

Wrynn’s appointment was announced by New York State Government David Paterson.

“As an experienced insurance lawyer with expansive involvement in government, I am confident that he will serve both the department and state well,” Paterson said in a statement.

Acting Superintendent Kermitt Brooks will stand down from the role and continue in the department as first deputy superintendent.
