Zurich Financial Services Group has named Alan Fairhead as chief underwriting officer of Europe General Insurance, with effect from 1 September.

Fairhead will retain his position as chief underwriting officer of Zurich Insurance plc, and in his new post will report to Annette Court, chief executive officer of Europe General Insurance, Markus Hongler, CEO Western Europe and CEO Zurich Insurance plc, and Inga Beale, Global Chief Underwriting Officer and Head of Organisational Transformation.

Fairhead, who has been with the firm for a decade, will be based in Dublin.

During his time with Zurich he has occupied a number of high ranking positions including MD of Global Corporate UK, and for the last five years has served as chief underwriting officer of Global Corporate.

In addition, the CEO Zurich Global Corporate Switzerland, Juan Beer, has been appointed to the post of chief underwriting officer of Global Corporate from 1 September.

Beer will report to Mario Vitale, CEO of Global Corporate, and Inga Beale, Global Chief Underwriting Officer and Head of Organisational Transformation.
