Greenbee reveal UK’s rising clumsiness
Greenbee Home Insurance (part of the John Lewis Partnership) has revealed that claims for accidental damage/loss have soared by more than a quarter in the first three months of 2009, compared to the same time last year.
The 27% rise has been attributed to clumsiness, and the laptop is the most regularly claimed for item, due to a spilt drink.
Home decorating can prove troublesome, and is partially responsible for the second and third items, televisions and carpets.
Indeed, almost half (46%) of home insurance claims are made for accidental damage/loss, which, surprisingly, is quite low on homeowners’ list of concerns.
Only 2% consider DIY mishaps to be a worry, yet the actual odds on something going wrong are 18%.
The most accident-prone age group are the 45-54 year olds.
James Furse, MD of greenbee.com, has warned that many may be disappointed should they have to make a claim, as the standard home insurance policy does not cover accidental damage/loss.
