ABI offers swine flu advice
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has issued guidance relating to the cover most people can expect under their travel policies if they catch swine flu.
Travel insurers will treat swine flu as they would any other illness, and policies will typically pay for treatment abroad if it’s caught on holiday.
Rearranged flights and accommodation should also be covered, as will the costs of cancellation should it be contracted prior to embarking upon a holiday.
If an individual is quarantined they may be covered by their insurance policy, insurers assess such matters on an individual basis.
ABI Director of General Insurance and Health Nick Starling has advised people not to panic or over-react to swine flu.
The BBC has reported that human trials for the vaccine against the H1N1 virus have begun in Australia.
Initial results should be known in around six weeks.
