Independent wholesale, reinsurance and specialist retail insurance broker Cooper Gay has announced it has signed up Megumi Ugai as a consultant.

Ugai is a specialist in Japanese reinsurance, and will be tasked with providing companies beneath the Cooper Gay Group umbrella with support and advice in exploiting opportunities in the Japanese reinsurance sector.

He is based in Tokyo and brings over three decades of experience in the insurance sector to his new post.

A year ago he set up Clifton Consulting Inc, his own reinsurance consultancy firm, prior to which he was MD with Hannover Re Services Japan.

For over 20 years Ugai worked for Sompo Japan, occupying a number of positions and latterly working as general manager of the Reinsurance Department.

Cooper Gay & Co Ltd’s Reinsurance MD Andrew Hitchings has welcomed Ugai’s appointment, and praised his extensive experience.
