ABI calls for radical reform of longterm care
The ABI has called upon the British political class to unite around the need for radical reformation of the payment of longterm care in the future.
Such reform, the ABI asserts, is essential to encourage the private and public sectors to collaborate closely in guaranteeing the UK’s old and ageing population proper care in its twilight years.
Director General Stephen Haddrill has described the need for a change in longterm care provision as a growing priority.
Care homes are not cheap, and paying for them frequently involves the depletion of life savings or the sale of homes.
Haddrill went on to say that the insurance sector was ready to support the Government and collaborate in formulating and implementing a new and improved system.
The ABI’s statement follows on from the Health Secretary’s social care plan, reported by the BBC yesterday, which could involve the elderly in England paying an obligatory contribution of £20,000 towards their personal care, with accommodation costs being deferred.
