Groupama hires cognitive interviewing team

| July 6, 2009 | 0 Comments

Groupama Insurances has formed a cognitive interviewing team to help enhance its counter-fraud department.

The members of the new team have each undergone specialist training in the interviewing technique which involves taking detailed information regarding the circumstances of a claim.

The method is particularly effective against opportunistic fraudsters who often buckle under the forensic examination or have ill-thought out claims that may contain contrary statements of fact.

However, cognitive interviewing has also been documented to be effective even against planned fraudulent claims.

Groupama’s Counter Fraud manager, Stephen Teeling, explained that whilst the method of cognitive interviewing had been in existence for some time it is only recently that the technique’s power has been used by the insurance industry in the fight against fraud.

Teeling went on to say that although the primary aim of the new team was to combat fraud it would also help spot genuine claims more quickly and thereby improve customer service.
