International specialty property/casualty insurer and reinsurer Catlin Group Limited (‘CGL’; London Stock Exchange) has announced the appointment of Heinz-Walter Haas as chief underwriting officer for Continental Europe.

Haas joins the firm to take up the post and is to be based in Cologne.

Previously he held positions with a number of firms including Basler, Generali, HDI and Jauch & Hübener.

In his new position he is responsible for the implementation of Catlin’s underwriting activities across Continental Europe.

Haas will collaborate closely with the firm’s nine European offices in an effort to develop existing classes of business, and to examine the possibility of embarking upon new lines.

Catlin’s Continental Europe CEO Ralf Tillenburg has warmly welcomed Haas’ appointment and praised his extensive underwriting experience.
