XL Capital Ltd’s (NYSE: XL) global insurance operations, XL Insurance, have named Neil Robertson as chief underwriting officer of its Global Specialty business.

Prior to his appointment he worked as the global head of XL Insurance’s Fine Art & Specie and Equine operations, and will continue to be based in London for his new role.

He began his career 23 years ago as an underwriting assistant with Cigna Europe, and joined XL in 1992 after working for a number of Syndicates at Lloyd’s of London.

The global speciality lines will fall under Robertson’s responsibility in his new post, and he will also become the active underwriter of XL Syndicate 1209 at Lloyd’s of London.

Chief executive Dave Duclos explained that Robertson has been selected for the appointment based on his extensive experience of specialty lines.
