Hannover Re expects to be hit with net damage claims of €25 million from the Air France plane crash earlier this month.

A spokesperson for the reinsurer said the estimate was preliminary, and that the firm is waiting for additional information on the possible causes of the crash.

Investigators scouring the scene of the accident have yet to find flight records.

Flight AF 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris crashed into the Atlantic ocean on 1 June, killing 228 passengers and airline crew.

French and Brazilian ships continue to search the ocean for debris and bodies.

Rival reinsurer Munich Re said it is expected net claims from the crash in the region of €50 million.
