Harmer resigns as Aon UK chief executive
Peter Harmer has resigned as chief executive of Aon UK to return to his homeland, Australia.
Harmer, who joined Aon UK two years ago, is also quitting his position as chair of the Market Reform Group (MRG), a body set up to modernise Lloyd’s of London.
With Harmer at the helm, the MRG pushed through important reforms such as digitalising the claims process and updating accounting and policy settlement processes.
“I have truly enjoyed my time in the UK and am delighted that the progress we have made in implementing our strategy has allowed me to return home a little sooner than originally planned,” Harmer said.
Aon issued a statement acknowledging Harmer’s contribution to the firm.
Harmer “drove fundamental change across many parts of Aon Risk Services in the UK and across the company’s shared services operations, putting in the architecture for growth,” Aon said.
Ted Devine, the US-based president of Aon Risk Services, said he will spend significantly more time in the UK until a replacement for Harmer is found.
The MRG said they will announcing a successor for Harmer soon.
Aon is set to replace AIG as the shirt sponsor for Manchester United starting in the 2010-2011 football season.
