Hastings Direct to hire 150
Hastings Direct insurance has announced it is to hire 150 new employees throughout the company, in departments including marketing, finance and call centre.
The news will come as a welcome bright spot in the very overcast economic skies which now see unemployment over 2 million and many believing it will be substantially worse by the year’s end.
Bucking the trend, Hastings Direct enjoyed a successful management buyout and posted increased sales and profitability last year, creating a foundation for growth and new jobs rather than reductions in headcount which are becoming ever more prevalent.
The announcement of a recruitment drive follows on from the acquisition of Renew, a specialist insurance firm and the piloting of a new approach to customers by putting Hastings Direct stores on the High Street.
Edward Fitzmaurice, chief executive officer, has confidently spoken of the great start to 2009 the company has enjoyed which has necessitated an increased staff.
Fitzmaurice went on to say that should the year progress into continuing growth then extra employees would be hired by the firm.
