Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) has secured a minimum five-year contract with BAA Airports to provide insurance broking and risk management services for the latter’s construction activities at UK airports.
BAA operates seven airports across the country and has extensive plans for expansion and redevelopment involving an investment of £6 billion.
Of this, £4 billion is being spent on improvements to Heathrow Terminal 3 and 4 and the development of Terminal 2A, which will eventually replace Terminals 1 and 2.
The group is also in the process of completing the world’s largest integrated baggage system which involves boring a 1.8km-long tunnel underneath the airfield at Heathrow, to provide a link that will enable 110 million bags to be handled annually.
BAA’s head of insurance, Karen Reynolds, says: “The Team at JLT have an in depth knowledge of construction issues and demonstrated their experience and pro-active approach to secure this business.”
John Thompson, who led the JLT construction broking team on the deal, describes the construction insurance market as “responding positively to the challenges and complexities of delivering BAA’s vision for the future”.
