The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has launched an initiative in response to the large number of households in the North West who lack home contents insurance.
The campaign comes shortly after the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) published research showing that the recession is affecting home and car owner behaviour and reducing the number who are taking out appropriate insurance measures.
According to the ABI, as many as 25% of homes in the North West lack home contents insurance, gambling with family finances during difficult economic times.
Although insurance does incur a cost, should burglars strike then the financial penalty could be many times greater.
The ABI’s assistant director of Markets and Regulation, Kate Carr, has stated that the organisation and the Government are committed to increasing the usage of home contents insurance on rented accommodation.
Carr went on to explain that such homes were more liable to burglary or fire yet the occupants could find coping with such events difficult.
