Sainsbury’s Car Insurance has extended its motor insurance cover to include support for motorists who fall victim to road rage or car jacking.

The broker’s manager, Joanne Mallon, comments: “It’s important that these victims aren’t left high and dry, which is why we offer a counselling and financial package for motorists who have been victims of car jacking or distressed by a road rage incident.”

According to research by Sainsbury’s, 58% of UK motorists consider themselves to have been the victim of road rage in the past year.

The study also claims that 265,000 people have been car jacked, while 262,000 have been involved in a failed attempt to take over their vehicle.

General advice to avoid such a terrifying event includes being wary if involved in an accident with another car when the circumstances seem suspicious or contrived; keeping doors locked and windows up when driving in urban areas and being wary if a stranger attempts to flag you down, especially in an isolated locality.
