Specialist insurance market Lloyd’s has announced that its new underwriting performance director is to be Tom Bolt.

He brings to the role over a quarter of a century of experience in both insurance and reinsurance on the international stage, and has recently worked with Marlborough Managing Agency as managing director.

Bolt, whose appointment is effective in Autumn, will succeed the incumbent underwriting performance director Rolf Tolle who is to retire at the end of 2009.

Bolt will be tasked with leading his team in collaborating closely with individual businesses of Lloyd’s to enhance the market’s commercial performance.

His duties will include making certain that underwriting guidelines are implemented in practice and measuring each syndicate’s actual performance against their business plan.

Chief executive officer Richard Ward has praised Bolt’s track record and extensive experience, and expressed his delight at the appointment.

Ward has also paid tribute to the six years of effort Tolle has put into the post.
