AIG has announced the appointment of executive VP Rodney O. Martin, Jr. to the post of chairman of International Life and Retirement Services.
His appointment follows the retirement of Edmund Tse, board member and senior vice chairman, who served almost 50 years with the firm.
In his new role Martin will be made responsible for the insurer’s international life and retirement businesses, and will also become chairman of AIA and ALICO.
American International Assurance Company Limited (AIA), American Life Insurance Company (ALICO), AIG Star Life Insurance Co., Ltd., AIG Edison Life Insurance Company, and Nan Shan Life Insurance Company, Ltd. will all fall under his responsibility, and Martin himself will report to AIG’s chairman and chief executive officer, Edward M. Liddy.
Liddy has paid tribute to Tse’s wisdom and vision in service of the insurer, adding that he personally appreciated the advice Tse could offer.
Martin has already occupied a number of posts in the upper echelons of AIG, including president and CEO of AIG American General and chairman and CEO of ALICO.
