W. R. Berkley Corporation has announced the appointment of Douglass E. Pfeifer as the new president of Riverport Insurance Company, with immediate effect.

Riverport provides property and casualty insurance products and services for government bodies, human services organisations and others.

Pfeifer succeeds incumbent president Kenneth R. Hopkins who is to retain his seat on the firm’s board of directors and the presidency of Berkley Risk Administrators Company, LLC.

Pfeifer joined W. R. Berkley some 18 years ago, and for the last 3 has served as executive VP of Riverport.

Prior to that appointment he worked as senior VP of Berkley Risk Administrators Company, LLC.

Chairman and CEO William R. Berkley has praised Pfeifer as a strong asset to the firm and expressed confidence in his ability to fulfil his new role.
