Kwik Fit Insurance (KFI) has reported that sales of home insurance policies increased by 65.8% last month, compared with a year earlier.

In February, total home insurance policies held by the intermediary rose to 74,000, following on from an annual rise of 62%, in January.

The company also reported a sharp rise in sales of both home and motor products for December.

During the traditionally quiet month, the firm recorded a 12% year-on-year rise in motor business, writing close to 18,000 new policies.

Meanwhile, sales of home insurance policies rose by 20% on December 2007, with 3,160 additional policies written.

Kwik Fit managing director, Brendan Devine, describes home insurance as a “key growth area” but adds that the company is “concentrating on growing the business across all areas” and increasing its share of the UK general insurance market.

The firm also has high hopes for its business insurance range, which is aimed at small to medium-sized enterprises.

In related news, KFI recently announced that it will be appearing on Facebook, providing the social networking site with a “widget” that users can programme to count down the hours and minutes before their next holiday.

Exposure on the site will no doubt benefit the intermediary, which already has around 140,000 customers between the ages of 18 and 35, the principal age range for users of Facebook.
