Aviva outsources Norwich data centres to EDS

Aviva has agreed a 10-year £700 million contract with EDS, which has been hired to run data services for the insurer.

EDS, which is part of the HP group, will operate two data centres located in Norwich providing services for Aviva’s businesses in the UK, France, Ireland and India.

According to the insurer’s UK general insurance chief executive, Igal Mayer: “Partnering with EDS for data centre services, in our view, supports Aviva’s goals to improve flexibility, increase operational efficiency and lower costs.”

He adds that: “After a thorough evaluation, we chose EDS over other global service providers because of its collaborative approach as well as its unmatched reliability, security and value.”

Under the terms of the contract, EDS will also modernise the data centres and manage their mainframe, midrange and servers.

Technological support and resources will be provided by HP and Cisco and around 300 Aviva employees will transfer to EDS to complete the switch-over.
