Kwik Fit Insurance is making an appearance on Facebook by providing the social networking site with a “widget” that users can programme to count down the hours and minutes before their next holiday.

The site’s 150 million users can search the application directory for Kwik Fit’s “reminder” facility and follow the on-screen instructions to install a holiday countdown clock.

Reminders for birthdays and other annual events, such as insurance renewals, can also be included and those who are not regular Facebook browsers will benefit from the emails sent out by the system.

Kwik Fit Insurance itself will no doubt benefit from a presence on Facebook because the company has around 140,000 customers between the ages of 18 and 35, the principal age range for users of the site.

The insurer’s head of e-Commerce and marketing, Michael Lynch, explains that the company is keen to explore innovative ways of promoting the brand and reaching potential new customers.

Kwik Fit Insurance has had a successful year so far, having last month reported a 12% year-on-year rise in motor business during the traditionally quiet month of December, plus a 20% increase in sales of home insurance policies.

Also last month, Kwik Fit Financial Services appointed Brendan Devine as managing director and announced plans to build on its car insurance franchise, as well as expand in other areas, including van, motorbike, and household insurance.
