Older motorists have made no more insurance claims than usual this week despite heavy snowfall across the UK, Saga Insurance has revealed.
The insurer said its claims centre was not deluged with calls yesterday – as might have been expected – because of the experience of its customers, all of whom are over 50.
Saga said its drivers are experienced enough to take extra care driving in cold weather, and are wise enough to know when to stay indoors.
Roger Ramsden, Saga Insurance Chief Executive, said: “Given the string of reports on the news this week about the number of accidents and travel problems caused by the snow, most motor insurers will be expecting to see a huge increase in the number of people reporting claims.”
He added: “We have seen no such increase in claims calls this week because the over 50s tend to use their experience in bad weather and either stay at home or adjust their driving according to the conditions, making them safer than younger drivers.”
Data released recently by Norwich Union showed that January is likely to be the busiest month this year for car insurance claims because of the cold weather.
