AIG appoints vice chair

American International Group has named Anastasia Kelly as vice chair.

Kelly, also executive vice president at the company, will report direct to AIG chairman and chief executive officer Ed Liddy.

In her new position, Kelly takes responsibility for communications corporate affairs and human resources in addition to her present duties in charge of global legal, compliance and regulatory matters.

Commenting on the appointment, Liddy said: “With the alignment of policy functions under Anastasia’s leadership, AIG’s corporate activities are better positioned to achieve our goals of repaying American taxpayers and restoring AIG’s financial health.”

AIG is currently selling off many of its businesses to pay back a $150 billion bailout loan from the US government.

Kelly joined AIG in September 2006, transferring from MCI/Worldcom were she served as executive vice president and general counsel.

Before joining MCI/WorldCom, Kelly served as general counsel of Sears, Roebuck, and Fannie Mae.
