WR Berkley Corporation has announced two senior appointments at two of its member companies.

Vela Insurance Services, Inc has a new president in the form of David A. Jordan, who succeeds Richard P. Shemitis.

Shemitis moves on to assume the role of executive VP and chief underwriting officer of Nautilus Insurance Group, LLC.

Both moves are made with immediate effect.

Vela is responsible for underwriting excess and surplus lines casualty business, and operates from offices located in Chicago, Illinois; Solvang, California; and Radnor, Pennsylvania.

It will benefit from Jordan’s 28 years of industry experience, who joins the firm from a top US excess and surplus lines broker where he worked as chief operating officer.

Shemitis has worked in the sector for almost four decades, including 10 with WR Berkley, and has served as Vela’s president since its origin.
