Marsh has launched a public sector division in Scotland, which is dedicated to servicing a range of the firm’s clients in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The broker and risk specialist is enhancing its offering to the region’s local authorities, fire and police authorities, social landlords, central government and government agencies.
The new practice is headed by Gordon McLagan, who explains that Scottish public sector organisations are subject to UK law and legislation from the Scottish government.
Such organisation can therefore carry an additional layer of unique risk on diverse issues such as health and safety, healthcare reform and education.
Mr McLagan believes that the recession is creating its own set of risks for public sector organisations, as budgets are cut but targets remain.
However, he is confident that the establishment of the new practice means his firm is well placed to provide clients with the advice they need to deal with the challenges that lie ahead.
