Bupa, the international health and care company, has announced the appointment of Dr Karen Woo as the firm’s new associate medical director.

In her new post Dr Woo will be responsible for parts of Bupa’s global medical strategy and supporting clinical governance.

Her initial task will be the direction of the firm’s e-health and telemedicine initiatives with a view to growing and developing them.

One part of this will include working with Clinovia, the home health business of Bupa, to promote the usage of mobile phones for those with chronic lung disease and breathing problems, enabling them to benefit from a more interactive approach to healthcare information services.

She brings with her extensive experience of the medical system both within the UK and the wider world, and leaves behind her prior post as a general surgeon, which she held for five years.

Most recently Dr Woo was based in London and worked for St Mary’s Hospital.

During her career she has also worked in South Africa, Australia, Papua New Guinea and Trinidad and Tobago.
