Ten cheapest cars to insure according to swiftcover
Swiftcover.com, the online subsidiary of French insurance giant AXA, has been looking into the cost of insuring second-hand cars in the UK and come up with a list of the makes and models that attract its lowest premiums.
Based on vehicles manufactured in 2003, the top ten are as follows: Smart; Fiat Seicento; Skoda Fabia; Toyota Aygo; Nissan Micra; Citroen C1; Renault Clio; Suzuki Wagon R; Volkswagen Fox Urban and Peugeot 107.
The Smart Pure is the cheapest car to insure with swiftcover, at an annual premium of £350.84.
The research is based on a 32-year-old male living in Birmingham.
This hypothetical motorist has one speeding conviction and a full no-claims discount.
He keeps his car on his driveway, covers an average 10,000 miles a year and has opted for a £300 voluntary excess.
Swiftcover says the findings highlight the difference that the make and model of a car makes to the cost of insurance.
The firm’s marketing director, Tina Shortle, adds that the research has also provided reassurance that swiftcover’s pricing structure offers value to its customers, having checked out competitors’ premiums on price comparison website, moneysupermarket.com.
