Cooper Gay & Co Ltd has announced the appointment of Chris Butcher FCII to the post of managing director for wholesale UK broking business FSJ Broking.

He brings with him over a quarter of a century of experience in both the UK and global markets, and recently formed a European network on behalf of a leading Lloyd’s Syndicate.

Butcher will assume daily operational responsibility for the running of FSJ Broking with immediate effect.

Derek Thornton retains his post as executive chairman, and is to report directly to Butcher.

In May, Heath Lambert sold FSJ to Cooper Gay, establishing a strong wholesale presence in the UK marketplace.

FSJ, which is based in London, is a specialist in motor fleet, high hazard commercial accounts and pharmaceutical and medical malpractice business and places a large number of non-standard risks with brokers throughout the country.

Jim Summers, CEO, expressed his delight at having hired Butcher, describing his considerable experience as invaluable in the firm’s growth plans.
