Specialist insurer Hiscox has announced that the managing director for Hiscox Europe, Marc van der Veer, is leaving the firm.

His responsibilities are assumed, with immediate effect, by Michael Gould, Hiscox’s group chief operating officer.

Gould has also held the post of chairman of the European Steering Group since the summer, when he joined the firm.

Bronek Masojada, chief executive, thanked van der Veer for the contribution he had made to the firm over the course of his time with Hiscox, which he joined in 2005.

The year prior to his joining, Hiscox Europe was an €86m business, and is now on target to become to write €125m, largely as a result of van der Veer’s leadership and underwriting experience.

Masojada went on to wish him all the best for the future.
