Thomas Buberl has been named by Zurich Financial Services Group as the new chief executive officer of Zurich Switzerland.

He leaves behind AXA’s Swiss insurance branch, AXA Winterthur, where he had a seat on the Executive Board and was head of Distribution.

Buberl is to join Zurich on 1 November of this year, and after a two month transition period will replace Markus Hongler on 1 January 2009.

Hongler will leave his present role as Zurich Switzerland’s CEO to become CEO of Zurich Insurance Ireland Limited (ZIIL) on 1 January 2009.

Europe General Insurance CEO, Annette Court, has welcomed Buberl to the firm, praising his in-depth knowledge and broad experience.
