Markel International Limited, the London-based subsidiary of international property and casualty insurance group Markel Corporation, has announced a pair of key appointments.
Gerry Albanese, president and chief operating officer since 2003, is leaving to return to the US where he will take up a senior role with Markel Corporation.
Albanese is succeeded by William Stovin in both his capacity as president and as chief operating officer.
Stovin was heavily involved in Markel International’s reorganisation, which occurred eight years ago when it was acquired by Markel.
Three years ago he was made director of Administration, a position which entailed responsibility for Legal and Regulatory, IT, Claims and Special Projects.
In February of this year Stovin was promoted to chief administrative officer.
Jeremy Brazil, presently active underwriter of Markel Syndicate 3000, also takes on a new role as president of Markel International Insurance Company Limited.
Brazil is an experienced underwriter, having begun his career in the London market in 1989.
Seven years ago he was appointed reinsurance director for Markel International, and since 2006 has had strategic responsibility for the management of the firm’s underwriting divisions.
