Willis Group Holdings has launched a new M&A practice in South Africa that will cater to the needs of the growing private equity sector and corporate clients.

South Africa’s attractiveness for M&A has grown in recent years, with an annual increase in the amount of assets under management soaring by 46%.

Willis’ new practice will handle risk management and insurance brokerage needs, and reflects the expanding market for assessment and insurance in the country and region.

The team will be led by William Seccombe, head of the Financial and Executive Risks division (FINEX) in South Africa.

Seccombe will receive support from Richard Worker, the leader of Willis’ M&A practice in London.

The chief executive officer of Willis South Africa, Ryck Genis, has commented on the move by saying that it enables Willis to set itself up as the leading player in M&A in the country by utilising its global expertise in the field combined with its local knowledge, all at a critical time for the rapidly growing sector.
